Both roles of Systems Engineer and Safety Engineer control a source of requirements for systems development. How can these two roles work together with seemingly contradictory requirements for cost, functionality, and safety? There are many industrial standards that focus on either systems engineering or on safety engineering aspects. By using an iterative incremental systems engineering approach applied to developing a passenger aircraft it is shown that the Systems Engineer and the Safety Engineer can work together to develop a system optimized for cost, functionality, and safety. Also, an outlook will be provided on how this harmonized teamwork will be integrated in SysML.
