Stockholm Public Transport Administration
(Trafikförvaltningen/SL) is currently upgrading its underground red line with
new signalling system, new vehicles, new depot and possibly driverless
operation, so called UTO (Unattended Train Operation). The purpose of the
upgrade is to increase the capacity of the red line from today’s 24 departures
per hour up to 30 departures per hour by 2021 in order to meet the increasing
need from the growth of the city. SL has adopted Systems Engineering in the
program upgrading the Red Line. What benefits have the program gained from
adopting Systems Engineering? What were the challenges?
